Introduction

World Obesity Day is observed every year on March 4 to raise awareness about obesity and its impact on health. Obesity is a major global health problem that increases the risk of many non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

It is not just about body weight—it is a complex condition influenced by diet, lifestyle, environment, and genetics.

This theme focuses on improving food systems, healthcare, and environments to support healthier lifestyles and reduce obesity.

What is Obesity?

Obesity is a condition where excess body fat accumulates in the body, affecting health.

It is commonly measured using Body Mass Index (BMI):

  • Normal: 18.5 – 24.9

  • Overweight: 25 – 29.9

  • Obesity: ≥ 30
